Common Questions, Answered!
When are services?
Services are held on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, from September to May at 11:00 a.m. at the Chaplaincy Centre of the University of Prince Edward Island, in Charlottetown. Services may be extended into June or may be cancelled due to weather. Services may be rescheduled to accommodate special events. Please see our Facebook page for last minute changes.
Are my kids welcome?
Absolutely. Kids and youth are important and valued members of our community! If their patience is shorter than the duration of the service, some quiet distraction, electronic or otherwise would be encouraged as we have no dedicated youth care or religious education facilities.
What's the best way to get there by public transit?
Take the University Ave bus from either Downtown or Charlottetown Mall and get off at UPEI. Walk 5 minutes N/E on the UPEI Campus to the Chaplaincy Centre.
Where should I park?
If you ride your bike, you can park at the front of the building. If you bring your car, there is free parking on Sundays in the general lot parallel to University Avenue.
Is the congregation open to the LGBT community.
Absolutely. Our denomination has welcomed gay parish ministers for the last three decades, long before most other religious groups.
Is the building wheelchair accessible?
Our church building is almost totally wheelchair accessible. There is wheelchair elevator.
What should I wear?
Dress up or dress casually; you won't be alone whichever you choose.
Is UFPEI Associated with Unity, Unification or the United Church?
No. We have no relationship with these organizations.
We are associated with other Unitarian, Universalist and Unitarian Universalist congregations throughout Canada, the U.S. and the world.
Do I need to bring anything?
We do not require anyone to bring items to the service. However if you have some musical talent we invite you to bring your instrument. If you have something else that can be shared such as a text for reading, media for viewing, recorded music, or a short meditation please take it and share it. Food or drink can also be brought to share.
